As any significant awards ceremony nears, there’s always a clamor to include of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and fill the hearts of fans with niche passions.
Another commentator previously argued for a horror game category. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.
- One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely that year
- Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
- Just some logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
